COUNTYWIDE VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE

DEAR LEADERS:

We seek to partner with countywide leaders to organize a Voter Registration Turnout Blitz in 2018. Our goal is to identify 4,500 voters and prospective voters in the City of Carbondale and 9,000 voters in the County. We need your help to increase voter turnout within our poor, minority, rural and millennial populations.

Our skeletal objective is the following:

First we will identify individuals who are not registered to vote in hopes of registering them.

Second, we plan to identify those who are inconsistent as registered voters and encourage them to vote in the 2018 primary and general elections. If we identify obstacles that prevent them from voting, we will find resolutions such as early voting, transportation to polls and babysitting stations, for instance.

Third, our goal is to identify those who are regular voters and find ways to proactively encourage them to rally with us on their residential blocks and neighborhoods and to visit churches and volunteer with other civic organization and groups to go door-to-door knocking, telephoning and handing out leaflets in order to urge voters “to vote.”

The United Message of this drive is “Your One Vote Counts!” We are not instructing voters on “who to vote for,” but simply “to vote.” While the right to vote arms us, it is the cast vote that empowers us.

Dr. Willie Barrows of Rainbow Push Coalition, my mentor, said it best: “It is not that we are so much divided, as we are disconnected from each other.” Let’s join arms and connect to rally for votes.

Please join us Saturday January 6, 2018, 10:00 a.m., at the Eurma Hayes Center, 441 E. Willow Street.

“WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER“

Sincerely,

Ginger Rye
